On January 5, 2026, the Department of Mathematics at M.B. Government Post Graduate College officially commenced a three-day workshop. This workshop is specifically organized to enhance the problem-solving skills of students in preparation for the Madhava Mathematics Competition. The program was inaugurated under the chairmanship of the college Principal, Dr. N.S. Bankoti. In his address, he emphasized the vital necessity of practical knowledge in mathematics beyond just theoretical study.

Details of the Main Sessions - The workshop coordinator, Dr. Narendra Kumar Singh, presented the outline of the event and highlighted the historical contributions of the great Indian mathematician 'Madhava' and his significance in modern mathematics.

Morning Session- This session was conducted by Dr. P.C. Mathpal. He shared techniques for solving complex subjects like Complex Analysis using 'Intuitive Guess' methods. He demonstrated how the intricate calculations of complex numbers can be simplified through logical reasoning.

Evening SessionThe keynote speaker for the second session was Dr. Saurabh from the prestigious Maitreyi College, Delhi. He delivered a lecture on Calculus, explaining the practical applications of various formulas and sharing specific strategies for solving questions critical from an examination perspective.

Conclusion and Future Roadmap- The first day of the workshop proved to be highly inspiring and informative. Students not only grasped theoretical concepts but also practiced solving problems using innovative techniques.

Dr. N.S. Bankoti, the Principal, presented certificates to all participants and also awarded Certificates of Appreciation to the editors of the departmental magazine "TOMATO" in recognition of their valuable contributions.

The Three-Day Mathematics Workshop focused on Problem Solving and Preparation for the Madhava Mathematics Competition was successfully conducted from January 05 to 07, 2026, at the Department of Mathematics, M.B. Government Post Graduate College. This workshop featured expert-led sessions on Complex Analysis, Calculus, Algebra, Number Theory, Differential Equations, and Matrices, equipping students with essential problem-solving techniques and strategies for succeeding in competitive examinations.

Cantor Intersection Theorem Unfolded: A Special Lecture by Dr. Izhar Uddin

Dr. Izhar Uddin, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, is a highly respected scholar in pure mathematics with a robust research portfolio encompassing Topology, Functional Analysis, Operator Theory, Fixed Point Theory, and Metric Spaces. Having earned his PhD in Nonlinear Functional Analysis from Aligarh Muslim University—where he focused on approximating fixed points in Banach and CAT(0) spaces—Dr. Uddin has authored over 60 publications with more than 500 citations and is well-regarded for mentoring young researchers and tackling interdisciplinary problems, such as numerical solutions for boundary value problems and LCR circuit applications. On February 15, 2025, he delivered an invited lecture on the "Cantor Intersection Theorem and Its Applications" at the Department of Mathematics, M.B. Govt. P.G. College, Haldwani. The session was a true celebration of mathematical thinking, characterized by enthusiastic student participation, interactive discussions, and insightful advice. Dr. Uddin's highly engaging and intellectually enriching talk left students not only with deeper conceptual clarity but also with a renewed motivation to explore the beauty of higher mathematics and research.
